Neglected Cat with Dreadlocks: Shedding 2 Pounds of Matted Fur

Everyone can have a bad hair day, unfortunately for a cat named Hidey the bad hair day lasted for years. This neglected cat with severely matted fur resembling ‘dreadlocks’ has been rescued in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was found with a very serious case of matting. The matted hairs were about 6 to 8 inches long, and had a combination of feces and tangled hair. So much so, she could barely move or walk around. But, now she finally has the chance to be happy and comfortable again.

After finding Hidey hiding in the basement, she was taken to the Animal Rescue League and Wildlife Shelter, an affiliation of the Western PA Humane Society. It took hours to get all the dreads removed, and then the matted hair shaved off completely.

Hidey is getting acclimated at her new home. Now that Hidey is free of all matted hair and dreadlocks, she’s feeling so much better. She will be cared for by a distant relative of her previous owner and finally have a chance at a happy and healthy life.
