Over the last couple of days, the rumors surrounding the Green Bay Packers and DK Metcalf have been a rollercoaster. They were reportedly talking to the Seattle Seahawks about a potential trade, but the rumors died down quickly.
Now, the Packers’ chances of finding a way to pull off a blockbuster trade for Metcalf have skyrocketed.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport has reported that Metcalf has officially requested a trade from the Seahawks. He has made it clear that he wants to play elsewhere.
Metcalf would be a massive addition for Green Bay. Heading into the offseason, it has been widely speculated that the Packers could look to acquire more help for franchise quarterback Jordan Love. This news could make Brian Gutekunst get aggressive in his pursuit of Metcalf.
During the 2025 season, Metcalf had another productive season. It wasn’t his best year, but he was still an elite weapon for Seattle.
In 15 games, Metcalf racked up 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 15.0 yards per reception. Those numbers would be a huge improvement for the Green Bay offense.
While the Packers have had a lot of talent at the position, they have not had a true No. 1 option. Jayden Reed has huge potential, Romeo Doubs is a very good wideout, Christian Watson is a big-play threat, Dontayvion Wicks is an intriguing player with huge upside, and Green Bay has two talented tight ends, but they just don’t have a legitimate star.
What would it take for the Packers to acquire Metcalf? Likely, they would be willing to give up a second-round pick. They might also have to part with a player like Doubs or Wicks.
Green Bay likely won’t consider giving up a first-round pick. That is what the original reports on the matter were saying that the Seahawks wanted for him.
All of that being said, the rumors are going to get very loud. The Packers are going to be connected in quite a few of them.
Fans should buckle up for what could end up becoming a very wild ride throughout the course of the offseason. Gutekunst has work to do and there are plenty of avenues to choose from to find that improvement.
